Hey guys! Today's post is all about a look that steps a little outside the box. A look that gets you out of your comfort zone, and into some real color. I was scrolling through Instagram the other day and came across a picture by a really talented girl who used a deep red eye shadow, with some gold glitter and heavy liner. I was immediately in love. I literally stared at this picture for like 5 minutes straight. That sounded creepy... but I did. I just loved how daring it was! You never see red eye shadow outside of Halloween. But this look was actually wearable! Anyway, it inspired me to do a look of my own using only red eye shadow. And this is what I came up with. I'm not gonna lie, I love it. I even wore it out of the house to run some errands. This isn't a look I would wear to work, haha. But I would wear this again in a heartbeat! If you'd like to see how I created this Instagram inspired look, then keep on reading. As always, all tips will be in the captions below each picture. Enjoy!
First, I primed my face using Benefit's the POREfessional.
I wanted the red to be really bright and vibrant. So, I decided to use the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in "Milk" as a base so the red would pop more.
I applied a thin layer of "Milk" all on the lids from the lash line to the crease. Then I blended out the white with my fingers to get rid of any patchiness.
Then came the red. I chose to mix the orangey-red I'm pointing at with the true red next to it. I used the BH Cosmetics 100 eye shadow palette.
I used a large shader brush to apply the red shadow.
I kept adding more and more product until I built it up to the vibrancy I wanted.
Then I took a fluffy brush and blended out the crease so there were no harsh lines.
This is what you should have at this point. So red! I love it!
I then took a matte, white eye shadow and applied that to the inner corners of the eyes, as well as the brow bone.
Like so.
For liner, I used the L'Oreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense to create a thin line and a small wing.
Like so.
Tight-lining.
Then I did all of the previous steps to the other eye.
Here's what both eyes look like so far. Scary, right? Wait till I put on foundation...
Oh, here I am putting on foundation now! I used the Covergirl Outlast foundation in the color "842."
Now I look ill, and like I have no eyebrows. If you focus on the tip of my nose, it really looks like I have no eyebrows, haha.
For concealer, I wanted to really brighten the under-eye area. Red eye shadow can make you look very tired, so you want your skin to look absolutely flawless.
I applied concealer to my face like so.
And concealer is blended!
|
Then to set the rest of the face, I used the MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Medium/Deep.
Face is set!
For this look, I'm skipping out on the blush. So, I want to contour and make sure my face has a bit of color so that I don't look completely drained.
Contour/Bronzing is done!
To fill in my brows, I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in "Medium Ash."
Then to set those brows in place, I used Benefit Gimmie Brow in the lightest color.
Brows are done.
I went back into the red, and applied it to the lower lash line.
Like so.
Then I went back to "Perversion," and lined my lower waterline.
Waterline done.
I applied the Jordana Best Lash Extreme to the lashes, focusing mainly on the lower ones because I'm definitely wearing falsies with this look.
Mascara is done.
For this look, I wanted really dark, full lashes. For that I used the Ardell Demi's.
For lips, I chose Milani "Nude Creme" lipstick.
And here's the final look!
XOXO - Tabitha
