Christmas Tree Nail Tutorial

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great week! Today's post is a tutorial on this really cute Christmas manicure. I had originally planned to post a tutorial on a different manicure I did last weekend, but I was not happy with how it turned out AT ALL. I just don't feel comfortable posting something on here that I'm not 100% happy with. So, I wanted something different, and this is what I came up with! By the way, please excuse my cuticles. This cold weather has been awful to my hands!

Here are all the polishes and tools you'll need. A sticky base coat, your nail polish colors, a top coat, and dotting tools (if you don't have these, there are tons of other things you can use to create your dots). You'll also need nail polish remover and an angled brush for clean-up. I chose traditional Christmas colors, but you can choose whatever colors you'd like. I think throwing some unexpected colors in there would be awesome! Here are the colors I used from left to right: NYC Matte Me Crazy top coat; OPI- Goldeneye; OPI- Lost on Lombard; China Glaze- Fairy Dust; OPI- Jade is the New Black; OPI- Alpine Snow; Seche Vite Top Coat; Essie- Beyond Cozy.

Let's start in on the tutorial! All tips will be in the captions under each picture.

I went ahead and painted my nails with Orly- Bonder sticky base coat. After that, I took OPI- Alpine Snow and painted all my nails.

It can look messy. We'll clean it up in a bit! Let this coat dry for a few minutes.

A lot of white nail polishes are really hard to apply and they tend to end up looking really streaky. Here's a trick - apply a thin sweep of a mattifying top coat in between coats of your white nail polish. The second coat of white will go on like a breeze!

You can't really tell, but this is with the matte top coat on. After applying your matte polish, let it dry for a few minutes and then add another coat of white polish.

Next step is clean-up. After applying your second coat of white polish and letting it dry a bit, take your nail polish remover and your angled brush and a swipe around each nail cleaning up any mistakes.

Here they are post clean-up. Much better!

This step is completely optional. I wanted to add a bit more sparkle, so I added China Glaze- Fairy Dust on top of the white polish. It's the Holidays... why not add a little glitter. Or a lot of glitter...haha.

After adding the glitter, I took OPI- Jade is the New Black to create my trees.

I took a medium sized dotting tool to create the dots. If you do not have dotting tools, you could use the end of a bobby pin for these dots!

You want to start with the top of your tree. Create two dots side-by-side in the middle of your nail. Then add two more dots on each corner of the tips of your nails. Then add one more dot to the middle part of your tree.

You can make each dot a different size if you'd like. I think that makes it more visually interesting!

Here are my nails with the green dots of the trees done.

Then I chose OPI- Lost On Lombard for the red dots.

I took a smaller dotting tool for the red dots. You could use the end of a number two pencil for this!

I added a few red dots in between the green dots. But I was careful to not lose the shape of the tree by going too far to the sides of my nails.

Add as many red dots as you think you need. But keep in mind that we still have one more color to add!

More red dots!

After finishing my red dots, I chose Essie- Beyond Cozy to add some more sparkle to my trees.

I took a super tiny dotting tool to do these dots. You could use the tip of an old dried out fine point pen!

I added all of the gold dots where there were bare spots in my trees. I did have to go over them a couple times to get them to stand out more.

For the tree topper, I chose OPI- Goldeneye.

I used the biggest dotting tool I had. For this you could use the eraser end of a pencil!

Add one dot at the top of each tree.

Almost done!

Finally I took Seche Vite Fast Drying Top Coat to finish off this manicure.

The finished product! Aren't they cute?!

So there you have it! A festive, fun holiday manicure! I hope you all liked this tutorial. If you try this one, let me know how yours turns out!
